The next task was already difficult: you had to

Paul Demjanjuk from the Warsaw room's Amber is the new champion of Polish sommeliers. In today's final won by a hair with Paul Bialecki (InAzia, bathroom cabinet Sheraton Hotel, Sopot) and Andrew Strzelczyk (La Rotisserie, Hotel Le Regina, Warsaw). The conclusion of this year's MPS is built - we have capable sommelierską youth.
Championship years have a similar course. During the elimination bathroom cabinet of the participants write an extensive test (this year apparently very difficult, based on questions from the European championships) and take part in competitions practical (decanting). The top three goes to the final. This took place today, November 5, in room Business Development Centre in Warsaw headquarters MACRO.
Players performed on stage before an audience - each, about 45 minutes. The first competition consisted of serving two "to clients' restaurant bathroom cabinet sparkling wine. All three finalists have coped with this very well by committing only minor errors.
The next task was already difficult: you had to "sell" restaurant guests the chef's menu and choose the appropriate wine to him (Judges bathroom cabinet evaluated not only the accuracy of the price but also the context and nature of the dinner menu). There were different - some of the participants did not know what is contained in the card ceviche as an appetizer, no one seems to know also what it Vacherin. I say "probably" because unless the "client" restaurant sommelier asked directly what is ceviche, it Vacherin only figured in the card, and ignorance guessed the perplexed face of competitors and the fact that no one uttered the magic word "cheese". With a selection of wines for grilled tuna, beef leg and chocolate roll-ups, there was no more trouble, and the finalists have demonstrated considerable originality.
The third competition is decanting wine - made by everyone very quickly - odpisywaliśmy points only for minor misconduct. Some difficulty was decanting magnum bottles. Even a short conversation in English (there were no dukania, the answers were smooth and logical) and ... started stairs.
One of the toughest competition is descriptive tasting of two wines (Riesling this year delicacy SGR 2008 Josef Chromy'ego of Tasmania and El Terroir Garnacha Old Vines 2008 Domaines Lupier of Navarre) - unless of describing wines were no major problems are diagnosed with strains and especially the place of origin, problems were considerable. Garnachy not know nobody, one of the players took the Tasmanian Riesling off Grüner Veltliner dry for.
Even more problems brought recognition of the five spirits: Wyborowa slate Pear, draft grappa Dolce Vite, orange liqueur De Kuyper Triple Sec, Evan Williams bourbon and brandy de Jerez Solera Reserva Romate Sanchez. Shots were single.
By far the most difficult task proved correct errors spiked wine list. This year, the list included only wine of Bordeaux and mistakes were simple typos, missing names possessions, mixed appeals and positions in the classification of grand cru classé. Summit organizers was, however sophistication example, Château Haut-Brion 1982. Figurowało the tab Pessac-Léognan as indeed, Haut-Brion Pessac it today, but 29 years ago was classified as Graves. On the 10 finalists wines found errors in the 3-4.
Despite this, the final level was high. I saw three efficient, articulate sommeliers who have a lot of knowledge about wine, have captured the imagination when it comes to the selection of wine and food, avoid cliché. I judged in MPS after the third or fourth time and it was certainly the best finale, in which I participated. After adding up the points I also knew that the feelings I had while watching the players on the scene confirmed. The differences were minimal. Paul Demjanjuk gained 200.08 points, 197.54 Białecki Paul and Andrew Strzelczyk 194.31. bathroom cabinet One can speak of "almost" draw. I have found pleasure in being served at the restaurant by each of the finalists.

In addition to (the classic I think) "feint" of Haut - Brion 1982 were also interesting Climens as Sauternes, Duhart - Milon as the third wine of Mouton and Montrose from Pauillac. Not to mention the joke of Cantemerle 2010, in the heat of competition could see each other, any year! Competition competition but is delicious by the way is not fun? Even so calmly, at home, without looking. Once again, congratulations to the winners! Their was three. Respect.
From what I know, dreaming of winning bathroom cabinet the World Cup sommeliers really long months doing nothing else but encouraged by the sponsors of preparing bathroom cabinet for the event. And as for the current winner of this practice has always been that the current champion of Polish starts next year at the European Championships. I think that the details in this regard will explain the Polish Association of Sommeliers. I promise to explain these complexities in an article about the championship in December MW.
